The Boredom Files

Recently uncovered… Secretly rare… A list of activities… That take out boredom!*

*not scientifically proven

*Well, that’s what you want, isn’t it?

Oh yeah, the list. So this is what I usually do (and yes, they do run on from one another)…

COOK- Yup, cook. You can invent a recipe, or find one in a book or on the internet. And it can be done with friends, family or by yourself. You can even film it.

FILM- Make a movie. I once made one with a friend. It was called “Random”. Yeah, all we said was “random…random…”. Or go out and take some cool pictures. Feeling adventurous? Pop it on Youtube.

YOUTUBE- Search anything. Find anything. Watch anything. Need we say more?

SAY MORE- Learn a language. Even better, create one. When I was about 4, I made one with my grandma. Called “Miaow” language. (Yes, a spin-off of “Cat Language”) I reckon I was fluent back then. After all, there were only about 10 words in the whole language. We even made a book of them.

BOOK- You could read a book. (People did that?). If you’re so connected to your tech, download the Kindle or iBooks App (or something similar) onto your iPad/computer/iPod touch/iPhone/Android device (don’t be annoyed if your device doesn’t support it… Just head to the library, okay!).Or write your own. Well, it doesn’t have to be that long. Try writing a short story, or even a comic book. It could be crime, adventure, romance (ugh) or… superheroes!

SUPERHEROES- See post above…

SPORT- 1-2-3-grab/tackle is good fun. Or what about improving your netball skills? Or finding a new sporty hobby (skateboarding, roller blading, basketball…) Or how about a big game with friends?

GAMES- There’s the board kind, with a little bit of cardboard and some plastic things engraved with numbers holding your destiny… Or there’s the computer kind, which leaves you addicted for hours, trying to beat that score! Or… the interactive kind- with friends/siblings. Think ‘Hide and Seek’ and that genre.

Speaking of genres, how about…

TRYING A DIFFERENT GENRE- Whether it be in books (see a couple ones up) or movies (let’s go with movies), different genres can be fun… If you’re into Adventure, try Comedy for a bit of a laugh. Or if you like Romance (ugh again), what about Horror for a bit of a scream. A lot of films are melds of different genres, for example: Romance/Comedy, or Horror/Drama. So you can be comfortable and uncomfortable at the same time, marveling at the makeup and lighting but only getting glances as you hide your head under the trembling popcorn mega-bucket.

BUCKETS- This one’s a bit dull… But you can make it (sorta) fun. Why not put a bucket outside on a rainy day and measure how much it rains? Then you could measure it over a week, comparing it and *BOOM* ~ you’ve got science!

SCIENCE- Do the old baking-soda-and-volcano trick. Make an awesome volcano out of papier-mache and scare your brothers in the bathroom with a bubbling, red mess as they step into the tub. (Tally: You, 1049592854, Them ‎1049592853. Score!)

KEEP SCORE- Why not keep a tally of how many times you’ve ‘won’ against your siblings! It’s a good way of keeping your life on… track…

HIT THE TRACK- Half of Australia’s population obviously detests it (yup, half of us are overweight… :P), but why not have a good run? It clears your head and often helps you feel better too. And, yes, in time you will reach and maintain a healthy weight (if you haven’t already).

SELF PORTRAIT- If you really can’t think of anything better to do, pull up PhotoBooth (or your iPod/camera) and snap some pictures of yourself. When done, rinse and repeat. 🙂

Minor Adjustments

Er… Fellow gobblers, I bring tidings of badness. You recall my motto? WOM? Yes, that one. Well, I’m afraid that we may have to adjust that (and this stupid ‘posh’ accent).

Okay, so have you guys been womming? Heaps? Great. Keep doing so. Actually, don’t.

I must say, I can’t really allow womming if I’ve just revealed who I truly am. What do you think? Comment. Below. Because I can’t reveal myself to everyone. Just my fellow gobblers. Otherwise, who knows? I could end up on the front of the Sydney Morning Herald as “THE G******”. And wouldn’t that be a shame.

stuff to do with pom- poms

are you ever faced with the situation that you have a bag of pom- poms but forgot what to do with them, or just have them lying around for no apparent reason? well, we felt that way recently and decided to post some ideas…

stick them together into a massive pom- pom ball and show it to your friends (they’ll be impressed)

make winter flip- flops by gluing them onto your old shoes and ta- da! instant winter flip- flops!

make your pet an updated collar- but make sure to remove the collar first… gluey pets are not very nice!

or, maybe (using the pet collar idea) make yourself a choker, bracelet or anklet with a piece of ribbon

you could also glue them onto the frames of some old (or cheap) sunglasses for some um, original, specs!

comment on any other ideas you have below, we welcome ALL suggestions
